While Text-to-Speech systems might seem like a convenient gadget to some, they can be life-changing for blind or visually impaired individuals.
In a recent workshop at the Bundes-Blindeninstitut Wien, we presented our ongoing work in speech synthesis. Participants also joined our Citizen Science Award project DialektDetect, where they listened to dialect recordings and guessed the speaker’s origin on a map — relying solely on audio cues.
The highlight was to test wheather the AI can correctly predict their own dialect by recording themselves.
