Over 370 people and 32 school classes and youth groups took part in a nationwide competition to become Austria’s top dialect experts — while at the same time contributing to linguistic research.
Participants listened to speech samples from across Austria and tried to pinpoint each speaker’s origin on a map, testing their ears for subtle regional differences.
The most successful class was honored during the congress at JKU Linz and received a €1000 prize.
